Who am I?
I am Sarah Klunk, owner and designer at Sarah's Floral Designs. My husband, Fred, and I grew up in the Carlisle Area. We have two creative daughters, a sweet bunny and a backyard coop full of chickens. We love to travel, hike and ski. I have always loved flowers and have lots of perennial gardens. I decided to take my passion for blooms and turn it into a business in 2009. I could never be surrounded by too many flowers! They bring me such joy and it's easy to get lost in their beauty.
I was trained as a floral designer at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. They offer one of the most respected floral design programs in the Northeast region.
I never, ever dreamed that my business would grow like it has. It has been an absolute joy to share my gifts with hundreds of couples on their wedding days. I cannot imagine doing anything else.
As a family, it is important to us that we reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible.
Therefore, I compost all leftover plant material.
I recycle or reuse all cardboard and plastic wrapping.
In an effort to reduce waste, I only wrap arrangements when necessary and rarely use filler papers that have not previously served another purpose.
You will often receive flowers in containers that have been repurposed to reduce landfill waste. So don't be surprised to find your corsages in repurposed plastic produce shells or a bouquet in a pickle jar!
I strive to use as many LOCALLY GROWN flowers as possible. Not only is this a more sustainable option, but in the process it supports othes women entrepreneurs in Central PA. I work closely with Coldwater Flowers and Crimson Clover Flower Farm. I hope to add more farms to my list this year.
AND I have launched a sustainable option for weddings: Plant Rentals! You can enjoy their green beauty for your wedding day but nothing goes to waste. I deliver and retrieve them. They can be used as centerpieces, accent pieces, aisle and ceremony decor. Be sure to ask me about it when we chat.
